The CAT (Contemporary Art Terrorism) group
was founded in the autumn of 2003 during
educational seminars of the Kondratyuk
Foundation and united people from various
fields of activity: contemporary art, politics,
sociology, philosophy. We were united by
our common wish to influence the social
situation in the city and in the country, and
also to use the means of fashion,
advertisement, and youth sub-cultural
formations to make the political activity
popular among young people. The Group
was initially intended as an experiment in all
the fields: art, politics, sociology etc. First it
was claimed that the Group would not
participate in conventional art exhibitions
because of the sluggishness and inertness
of the very cultural exchange system. In
public events, the Group participated as
terrorists: uninvited and with no curators
selected.

MONSTRATION, the most demonstrative of
the actions, was intended for demonstrating
the show-business nature of the political
function. On May 1st an experiment was
carried out in the body of a conventional
demonstration: people in gorgeous clothes
joined with absolutely senseless
transparencies, using their right for freedom
of speech and expression. The ultimately
spectacular and completely meaningless
character of the procession represented our
idea of the political field as a field of a show.
The reaction of the power to any attempt to
reveal its corrupt nature is always
suppression with no explanation.

Our common opinion is that art is capable of
not only reflecting but also changing reality.
