COLO-COLA (russian bells)

On April 17th 2004 an art-terrorist action took place, which was an intrusion into the bell tower of a cathedral and playing music on the bells, which is allowed by the Christian tradition during the Easter week. The first was the Voznesensky Orthodox Cathedral, but there they rejected us saying that the week had ended, although it was obviously not true. The next was a Roman-Catholic church, which at a closer look appeared to have no bell tower at all. The third target was chosen to be a mosque, but, as was agreed on a general conference, the construction of mosques does not imply any bell tower, so the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was taken for the fourth target.

No one tried to stop us, and we walked up the winding stairs to the bell tower. Paying respect to the religious prejudices of the parish, we waited till the service ended so that we would not disturb the ceremony by our activity, and finally gave a free charity performance. Some of us played something of pop tunes or from the Sepultura group repertoire, others just played, and it all resulted in a radical avant-garde expression. Soon, a representative of the aggressive ministers of religion appeared, and he attempted to use brute force. No one even had time to ask what was wrong, or who he was, or what was his right, or where were his documents. Other conservatives joined him and tried to scare us saying they would call the police. We pitied the nerves of these people and, feeling that the action had been accomplished, left the temple. The action revealed the fictitious nature of the Christian tradition, the double standards of the Orthodox Church which is functioning as an institute of oppressing the person and manipulating him.
